Getting
around
Taxi
Air-conditioned taxis can be hailed from the streets, boarded from
taxi stands or booked by phone. All taxis are metered. Flag-down
fare is S$2.40 for the first kilometer and S$0.10 for each subsequent
815 ft/250 m. Be aware that there are several additional charges
for such things as airport trips, booking in advance, trips into
the Central Business District and trips at rush hours. Extra charges
are shown on a tariff card in the taxi. Tips are not expected. Deregulation
of taxi fares is scheduled for September 1998, so expect changes
to the fare structure. You can choose from three companies: City
Cab, phone 552-2222; NTUC Comfort, phone 552-1111; or TIBS Taxi,
phone 483-3225.
